When news broke Monday that a judge had granted full custody of Britney Spears' children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, to their father, Kevin Federline — at least temporarily — it seemed no one was without an opinion. WHITE PLAINS - US track star Marion Jones announced her retirement from athletics on Friday and made an emotional plea for forgiveness from her fans, shortly after admitting to taking banned drugs.
Jones pleaded guilty to lying about her use of banned drugs to US agents, in a move that could see the American sprinter put behind bars.
The 31-year-old Jones, who has dodged doping allegations for years, entered the plea at a US District Court in New York state.
In a statement read out to the court, Jones admitted using the steroid THG, produced by the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative (BALCO) and known as "the clear," between September 2000 and July 2001.
Those dates were in contrast to the dates contained in a letter Jones earlier reportedly sent to family and friends in which the sprinter was said to have admitted to using banned drugs before the Sydney Olympics.

NEW YORK : US track star Marion Jones was expected to plead guilty Friday to lying to investigators about her use of banned drugs, in a move that could see the sprinter stripped of her five Olympic medals.
Jones, who has dodged doping allegations for years, told friends and family in a letter obtained by the Washington Post on Thursday, that she intended to plead guilty during the court appearance later Friday in New York state.
According to the Post, the 31-year-old athlete admitted in the letter to using steroids before her triumphant campaign for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where her five medals included three golds.
Jones said in the letter she took the steroid THG, produced by the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative (BALCO) and known as "the clear," for two years beginning in 1999, according to the report.
